SAN DIEGO — Susan Madden Lankford, the Rancho Santa Fe author who spent years contacting and befriending homeless people for her book “downTown U.S.A.,” is organizing another community workshop and seminar aimed at focusing attention and political will on the problem of homelessness.
The event will be held Monday in the downtown offices of Humane Exposures, the publishing company formed by Lankford.
Speakers include
Brian Maienschein, the former San Diego councilman now running the Home Again project to end chronic homelessness; Fran Butler-Cohen of Family Health Centers; Scott Silverman of Second Chance; and Simonne Ruff of the Corporation for Supportive Housing, among others.
The panel discussion, which is free and open to the public, will focus on finding permanent solutions to the homeless population that subsists on the streets of downtown San Diego.
Lankford used the book-launch party for “downTown U.S.A.” late last year to sponsor her initial community workshop aimed at addressing the issues surrounding homelessness. The seminar begins at 9 a.m. Monday in the sixth-floor office of Humane Exposure, 655 W. Broadway. |
